PhotoAlbums+ 3.0

The latest update to PhotoAlbum+ now brings compatibility with the latest 4.3 firmwares as well as a list of other optimizations and welcomed features which make the application more reliable and practical.

One such feature is the auto-backup manager which was designed to prevent loss of albums when iTunes rebuilds the photo library at inopportune moments. One annoyance that wasn’t easy to reproduce but in the end should finally be resolved.

The next new feature or rather behavior adjustments allow an additional layer of security and piece of mind when it comes to your private albums. One such change is to the multitasking resume feature of the photos app, ie. when you leave the app while viewing an album. If while in a pubic album it will resume as normal, but if you exited while in a private album it will forward you back to the album list.

Next we fixed the issue with some applications such as PhotoGene, Bump, iMovie and other apps that used alternate APIs for mapping the photos Library would somehow loophole access to private albums. Now privacy while in these apps has been restored.
The last takes place while connected to your USB cable while docked to your PC. We have omitted the USB mapping for private albums, meaning that Private albums will no longer show up in the windows file explorer.

While optimizing the privacy for USB mapping we were able to improve the entire system and now eradicate the random pc generated album names when viewing them via USB on the windows file explorer. They will now show up in the file explorer with their correct album names!

Last but not least we also fixed a bug with the PLACES tab which for some caused the app to slowdown drastically and at times crash to springboard.

So there you have it. We will continue to work on ways to make PhotoAlbums+ more intuitive, productive and practical for our current users and our prospective ones as well. Thanks for your support. Available via the Cydia Store for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

As the topic says. iOS v4.3.3 is now out. Do not update. It only contains a fix for the consolidated.db issue that the press made such a silly fuss over. If you require this fix, instead stay on your current firmware jailbroken and install untrackerd from cydia.

No official jailbreak is currently available and no ETA.Comex has verified, however, that the existing exploit used to jailbreak 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 still exists unpatched. It seems Apple didnt want to make any additional changes except the location tracking system. It seems redsn0w v0.9.6rc14 will jailbreak 4.3.3 as long as you point it to the 4.3.2 firmware. My advice is to wait for an official jailbreak for 4.3.3 before updating. And since the location untrackerd package successfully neuters the problem 4.3.3 aims to solve anyway, there’s really no reason to update for any jailbroken users.

Auto Answer now available for iPhone

One of the features iPhone was missing compared to other phones is auto-answer on a specified interval , for specific numbers.

This app is now ready and its live.

AutoAnswer answers FaceTime and Phone calls of selected numbers automatically.

The FaceTime feature is really cool, since you can also use it as video surveillance of an area with audio feedback.
The call feature can be used e.g. when you are driving or wearing a bluetooth headset , to auto-answer specific numbers.

The application also offers a stealth mode, so you can call your phone without your phone showing that a call is active. This is useful for surveillance and monitoring your phone’s area without annoying people around (e.g. at home).

Other uses are baby-watching (FaceTime) , baby-monitoring (auto-call answer), intant reply on phone calls of your favorite persons, and so on.

PhySwitch: app switching using volume keys

Hi, I’ve just released a new project called PhySwitch. It’s a simple app switcher using volume buttons to change between applications. Check the video demonstration here.

PwnTunes Now 4.3 Compatible!

After a seemingly long delay, the wait is finally over. PwnTunes has been ported over to work with all 4.3 firmwares. Apple had changed just about every aspect of the iPod framework, so after much effort PwnTunes had to be completely rewritten from scratch.
This drastic change by Apple while annoying to us was also exciting as it leads us to believe they are revamping the code for possible cloud support for streaming media content.

Cydia Store working again.

Thanks to all our users for their patience, and most especially thanks to those persons that were working on the Amazon outages. Cydia Store’s capabilities have been entirely restored about an hour ago. A tweet by saurik breaks it down: 86 hours of offline time, days and nights of screwed-up sleeping patterns to be available at a moment’s notice.  A hectic weekend closes with much rejoicing and jubilation. Now, go forth and download.

Cydiastore partial outage status

As some of you may find purchases fail or simply time out the last day or two in Cydia. This is caused by the amazon ec2 outage. When the amazon issues are sorted out, so should be cydia issues. Further, this may make repository updates slow because server side queries to cydiastore may be taking up excess connections. In short, everything may be flaky for a bit. My suggestion is simply to try again later.

There is nothing down on the side of BigBoss or Saurik so there’s nothing we can do at this time but wait.

Neuter Consolidated.db iPhone location tracking

Thanks to developer Ryan Petrich, you can now neuter your iPhone location tracking.

Not sure what this is about? CNN and other news sites have been going on the last day about the fact that location services stores your location history in a database on your device called consolidated.db. The news sites makes a big fuss about this and has gotten everyone all up in arms over privacy issues. (My opinion is that this is all silly since the info is stored only on your personal device and computer and not sent to apple or anyone else, therefore, it’s no more a violation of your privacy as storing your contacts info on your device and computer. No information is being sent to Apple or anyone else. This is no violation of your privacy. Silly.) Nonetheless, people are upset over it since the news made a fuss, so the jailbreak community provides you a fix for it.

Now, understand what this is. In its current state, this is a process daemon that runs every 30 seconds and clears the location data off your device. Running every 30 seconds may have some implications for your battery. It is probably not all that bad, but who knows. I’m personally not that concerned about the problem to install a daemon that runs every 30 seconds. But if you are, then this package is for you. Search for untracker in cydia and install it.

4.3.2 Untethered RedSn0w out!

It turns out Apple did not patch the exploit used to jailbreak 4.3.1 in 4.3.2. So i0nic updated his kernel patches and we now have an untethered 4.3.2 jailbreak via redsn0w v0.9.6rc13 or newer.

If you have 4.3.1 you don’t need to update to 4.3.2 (what a waste no features warranting an update). If you’re stuck on 4.3.2 for whatever reason (yea I know, your brother accidentally updated), however, you can now jailbreak.

iphone 4 users: there’s an issue with this jailbreak and you should wait for an upcoming fix before updating. The problem is that the untethering exploit isn’t working and has to be debugged so iPhone 4 users may be tethered in the meantime. Please wait a few hours and for a redsn0w update for this to be solved.

Manually Save your SHSH 4.3.1 With Tiny Umbrella Now

Urgent action required for anyone that likes jailbreaking 4.3.1 or 4.3.2 and wants to do so in the near future.

For those of you unaware of the Apple firmware update policy, you can only restore firmware version that Apple approves. When you restore in iTunes, it goes to Apple’s web site and verifies if you are eligible for this specific version. This was solved by Cydia storing your SHSH (the is it ok to restore this version request response from Apple). This has been ok for the last year.

However, a couple weeks ago, Apple banned the cydia servers from getting shsh’s. Saurik has to reengineer this solution and is doing so. But in the meantime, Apple is still signing 4.3.1. I suggest you grab the updated tiny umbrella v4.30.05 (windows) (OSX) and save your SHSH locally for 4.3.1 on all your devices. For current 4.3.2 SHSH, use the latest tiny umbrella version (same instructions) (Windows) and (OSX).

To do this, go to advanced, uncheck “request shsh from cydia” and uncheck “set hosts to cydia on exit”. Then restart umbrella, go to show all shsh’s and save them all. In the logs you should see 4.3.1 come down. This will allow you to restore 4.3.1 or 4.3.2 through umbrella’s tss server if you need to.

Cydia’s SHSH system will hopefully be back up soon. When it is, I will post about it on this site. (Note: your older shsh’s are still safely stored in Cydia and are not lost).
